SORCE index - Expected Employment
The Cleveland Fed’s SORCE survey captures real-time economic conditions in the Fourth District by polling business and community leaders. It delivers faster, ground-level insight than traditional data, feeds directly into the Beige Book and FOMC prep, and gives “Main Street” a voice on monetary policy. Starting January 2025, the publicly released SORCE indexes will provide a new, timely gauge of regional economic activity. Business Conditions measure recent demand by asking firms: How do you expect your staffing levels to change over the remainder of the current quarter and into the next quarter? Responses are categorized as Increased, No change, or Decreased, providing a clear, near-term signal of economic momentum.
