SORCE index - Planned Capital Expenditures
The Cleveland Fed’s SORCE survey captures real-time economic conditions in the Fourth District by polling business and community leaders. It delivers faster, ground-level insight than traditional data, feeds directly into the Beige Book and FOMC prep, and gives “Main Street” a voice on monetary policy. Starting January 2025, the publicly released SORCE indexes will provide a new, timely gauge of regional economic activity. Business Conditions measure recent demand by asking firms: Have you made any changes to this fiscal year's capital investment plan in the last two months? Responses are categorized as Increased anticipated investments, No change, or Decreased anticipated investments, providing a clear, near-term signal of economic momentum.
